Holistic’s Cultural Calendar

Holistic’s Cultural Calendar was created in an effort to raise awareness for cultural celebrations and recognize the individuals whose identities are tied to these important observances, especially those who belong to underrepresented communities.

For each of the events listed on the calendar, you will also find suggestions for ways that your organization can actively make an impact and foster inclusion throughout the month. Whether this means trying a new cuisine, pledging a donation as a company, or facilitating discussions, we hope you will be able to learn and partake in new events and affinity months! Keep in mind dates and observances when you are scheduling meetings and other team events; you never know what one of your coworkers may observe.

Each event on our calendar will have an action item or two for ways that you can foster inclusion or make an impact.

Don’t see an event? Send us a message at operations@holisticindex.com.

Highlights of the Month

Disability Pride Month

Disability Pride Month, observed every July, honors the identities and contributions of people with disabilities. It commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in July 1990, a landmark law prohibiting discrimination based on disability (ADA.gov, U.S. Department of Justice). The month promotes visibility, accessibility, and inclusion across education, employment, healthcare, and public life (CDC.gov). It encourages embracing disability as an important aspect of diversity and advocates equitable policies.

Action: Organize volunteer opportunities or fundraisers supporting local disability advocacy groups.

Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima is a traditional festival dedicated to honoring spiritual teachers or gurus. It marks the birth anniversary of Sage Veda Vyasa, who is revered as one of the greatest gurus, the compiler of the Vedas, and both author and character in the Mahabharata. The day is observed with reverence through prayers, meditation, and acts of gratitude toward teachers who guide individuals on their spiritual and intellectual journeys. Rooted in the ancient guru–shishya tradition, Guru Purnima emphasizes the vital role of mentors in imparting wisdom and shaping personal growth.

International Nelson

Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela Day is observed annually on July 18, honoring the legacy of the former South African president and global human rights leader. Recognized by the United Nations since 2009, the day encourages individuals to dedicate 67 minutes to community service, representing Mandela's 67 years of fighting for human rights, justice, and the abolition of apartheid. It serves as a call to action to promote justice, equality, and civic engagement in communities around the world.

Action: Get involved by organizing or joining a local volunteer event to create a meaningful impact in your community.
